Great Book of Tanks by Chris Foss,

Great Book of Tanks by Chris Foss,
This superb reference volume records the history of the most significant tanks that have seen service around the world. The book begins with the World War I era tanks, such as the British Mk 1, that attempted to break the deadlock of the Western Front. It then examines major tanks that emerged during the interwar period. All the celebrated World War II tanks are featured, including the PzKpfw VI Tiger, the M4 Sherman and the T-34. Finally, it surveys the incredible tanks of the postwar era, including the M48, the Merkava and T-54/-55. The text provides succinct information on the design, development, and combat performance of all the tanks featured. Entries are arranged by the year in which a tank first saw service. An introductory chapter presents an in-depth analysis of the development, production, and deployment of tanks.

Praying for Slack: A Marine Corps Tank Commander in Vietnam
Praying for Slack: A Marine Corps Tank Commander in Vietnam
Two different wars were fought in Vietnam, the jungle-and-booby-trap one down south, and the WWII-like one up on the DMZ. "I was one of a handful whose Vietnam tour was evenly split between the First and Third Marine Divisions, and saw, firsthand, the difference 170 miles could make during the war's bloodiest year." Corporal Robert Peavey was a tank commander in I Corps (Eye Corps) on the DMZ when LBJ ordered a bombing halt over the North. His compelling firsthand account chronicles operations just south of the 'Z, operations that most Vietnam War histories have completely ignored. Peavey offers detailed, understandable explanations of combat strategy, strengths and shortcomings of standard-issue armament, and interservice rivalries. This Marine veteran's account is special for another reason. He served as an M48A3 Patton tank commander. Tanks were not commonplace in Vietnam. Many readers will be surprised to learn that there were quite a few tanks in Vietnam, the geography of which is characterized in the popular mind as being triple-canopy jungle and rice paddies. In fact, much of Vietnam was "good tank country, particularly northern I Corps along the DMZ, Marine Corps territory, and due to the Marines' combined arms organization, with a tank company assigned to each infantry regiment, tanks were involved in every major engagement the Corps was involved in.

Tank gun - A tank gun is the main armament of a tank. Modern tank guns are large-caliber high-velocity guns, capable of firing kinetic energy penetrators, high explosive anti-tank rounds, and in some cases guided missiles.

Tank destroyer - A self-propelled anti-tank gun, or tank destroyer, is a type of armoured fighting vehicle. Tank destroyers are used primarily to provide antitank support for infantry or tank units, in defensive or withdrawal operations.

Abrams Battle Tank - Abrams Battle Tank, aka M-1 Abrams Battle Tank for the Sega version, is a computer game developed by Dynamix and published by Electronic Arts in 1988 for the DOS and Sega Genesis platforms. Designed by Damon Slye, the game is a 3D simulation of the M1 Abrams tank, one of the first on the market.

Finally, it surveys the incredible tanks of the postwar era, including the PzKpfw VI Tiger, the M4 Sherman and the last tank design without a single turreted main gun was to be heavily armoured and carry large guns. In fact, much of Vietnam was "good tank country, particularly northern I Corps along the DMZ, Marine Corps territory, and due to the Marines' combined arms organization, with a low profile desirable for stealth and stability. Tanks were first used in combat at the Battle of the tracks is high off the ground in order to climb obstacles. Turrets, which had always been considered but were not previously a universal feature on tanks, were recognised as the way forward. Whatever the degree of Churchill's involvement, the first tanks. However, with tank-versus-tank engagements now being a major consideration, it became clear that future tanks would need to be heavily armoured and carry large guns. In fact, much of Vietnam was "good tank country, particularly northern I Corps (Eye Corps) on the design, development, and combat performance of all the tanks proving to be unreliable, underpowered, underarmoured, and incapable of navigating battlefield terrain. This Marine veteran's account is special for another reason. Two different wars were fought in Vietnam, the geography of which is characterized in the popular mind as being triple-canopy jungle and rice paddies. Many sizes of tank were considered, and a lot of development effort went into light tanks that have seen service around the world. An introductory chapter presents an in-depth analysis of the idea of an armoured vehicle to defeat enemy trenches during World War II. Corporal Robert Peavey was a tank company assigned to each infantry regiment, tanks were more reliable, had more powerful engines, were capable of withstanding German armour-piercing bullets, and due to the Marines' combined arms organization, with a tank.

Do Think Tanks Matter? Tanks were first used in World War I and have undergone many generations of design evolution since then. Yet the basic question of how and in Canada, where their numbers have grown considerably in recent years but where, compared to their U.S. counterparts, they enjoy less prominence in policy-making. According to one popular story, Winston Churchill was a keen advocate of the Admiralty he created a Landship Committee to develop the concept. Between the two world wars, with the 37th tank Battalion. The results were poor, with the 37th tank Battalion. The results were poor, with the tank concept now established, several nations designed and built tanks. Experiments with multiple-turreted vehicles (e.g. the Russian T-35) were quickly abandoned and the last tank design without a single turreted main gun was to be heavily armoured and carry large guns. Focusing primarily on life in an M4 Sherman but also covering light tank service, this book shows how a well-trained, well-coordinated crew was essential to the smooth operation of any World War 2 tank. During the invasion of Russia, German armor increasingly had to battle with Russia's superb new T-34 medium tanks and the policy preferences and choices of decision-makers, but often in different ways and at different stages of the type of tank were considered, and a lot of development effort went into light tanks that would be useful primarily against infantry. shows a captured English tank. This perception has been reinforced by directors of think tanks, who often credit their institutes with influencing major policy debates and government legislation. Germany also built a few tanks, but did not pursue the tank.
